In 'The Hunting of the Hind' a prince falls fatally sick after hunting a beautiful, yet uncanny golden hind. Rana is a genus name for frog, so the princess and the frog are really matched. And another thing that is amusing for me is the princess' name. :) Though it's different from the real one because kissing is not required here, but i really love the characters, especially the frog. She finds comfort in talking to a large green frog, who seems very sympathetic to her plight and helps her to overcome Aliyander in a rather startling manner. In 'The Princess and the Frog', McKinley's princess is a frightened girl in a court that is being menaced by a dark sorcerer prince named Aliyander, to whom her own brother is in thrall.

I'm not familiar with this story but McKinley did a good job in retelling it. This is a story about how to overcome differences. Alora dreads her daughter's seventeenth birthday, but when the strong-willed Linadel is taken to Faerie, the 'door in the hedge' is opened, and both Faerie and humankind are changed forever. Queen Alora, whose lovely twin sister Ellian was taken on their seventeenth birthday, gives birth to a daughter late in life and names her Linadel. 'The Stolen Princess' is set in the last mortal kingdom which borders on Faerie, a place whose inhabitants live with the risk that their baby sons and late teens daughters might be stolen. As the other book of short stories, i'll review each of the short story: Another review of McKinley's book! Her fairytale always fascinated me, even though most of it are re-telling stories! Now, this book is a compilation of four short-stories which is pretty familiar with fairytale readers.
